How to Set Up Tutor LMS Native eCommerce
Set up Tutor LMS native eCommerce step by step: choose the engine, cart and checkout pages, currency, payment methods, taxes, checkout options, orders and testing.
Checked against the plugin source: Tutor LMS 4.1.3, Tutor LMS Pro 4.1.3

Tutor LMS native eCommerce lets you sell courses without WooCommerce. This guide sets it up from scratch in Tutor LMS 4.1.3, with notes on what Tutor LMS Pro adds.
Step 1: Select the engine
Go to Tutor LMS > Settings > Monetization > Options and set Select eCommerce Engine to Native. Save. Orders and Coupons now appear in the Tutor LMS menu.
Step 2: Cart and checkout pages
In the same Options section, choose the Cart Page and Checkout Page. Tutor LMS creates pages with the slugs cart and checkout when needed. They must contain the [tutor_cart] and [tutor_checkout] shortcodes.
Step 3: Currency
Set the Currency, Currency Position, Thousand Separator, Decimal Separator and Number of Decimals. Choose the currency before you set course prices; some gateways only support certain currencies.
Step 4: Payment methods
Open Monetization > Payment Methods. In the free plugin you can enable PayPal and manual payment methods such as bank transfer. With Tutor LMS Pro you can add Stripe, Razorpay, Paystack, Authorize.Net, Mollie and Klarna; Pro downloads each gateway package when you install it. Stripe can also be added with the Tutor Stripe plugin. Each automated gateway has an environment (test or live), its API keys and a webhook URL to copy into the provider's dashboard. Guides: PayPal, Stripe, Razorpay.
Step 5: Taxes
If you must collect tax, configure rates under Monetization > Taxes. In each paid course you can then decide whether tax applies (Tax Collection), separately for one-time purchases and subscriptions. Tax rules vary by country; check with an accountant. See tax in Tutor LMS.
Step 6: Checkout options
Under Monetization > Checkout:
- Enable Coupon Code: lets students enter a coupon at checkout.
- Enable "Buy Now" Button: lets students buy a course directly without adding it to the cart.
With Tutor LMS Pro, you can also enable guest checkout and configure invoices (for example the "from" address).
Step 7: Price your courses
In each course, set the pricing model to Paid and enter the regular and optional sale price. See setting course prices.
Step 8: Test end to end
- Keep gateways in test or sandbox mode.
- As a test student, add a course to the cart, apply a coupon and check out.
- Confirm the order appears under Tutor LMS > Orders as paid, the student is enrolled, and emails arrive.
- Test a failed payment and a refund.
- Switch to live keys and make one real low-value purchase.
Managing orders
Tutor LMS > Orders lists every order with its payment status. You can view details, add comments, mark manual payments as paid and process refunds. A refund cancels the related enrollment. Orders are stored in tutor_orders and related tables.
For developers
Native eCommerce fires tutor_order_placed when an order is created and tutor_order_payment_status_changed (order ID, previous status, new status) when its payment status changes. See running code when an order is paid.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a paid order not enrolling the student?
The payment confirmation probably did not reach your site. Check the webhook URL in the gateway dashboard and the gateway's event log.
Can students buy several courses at once?
Yes, with the cart. The Buy Now option is for single-course purchases.
