The problem

Why LMS maintenance is different

Tutor LMS releases updates often, and Tutor LMS Pro needs a compatible version of the core plugin (Themeum recommends the same version). WordPress, PHP, your theme and other plugins update too. Each update can fix security issues and also break customizations, template overrides or integrations. Leaving everything un-updated is not safe either.

A maintenance plan takes this off your desk. We update on staging, test the flows students use, update live in a quiet window, keep backups, watch for errors and downtime, and fix problems before students report them.

  • Core and Pro must stay compatible

Updating Pro without updating the core plugin stops Pro features from loading.

  • Customizations at risk

Template overrides and custom code can break on updates.

  • Students as testers

Without staging, students find the problems.

  • No time for small jobs

A backlog of small changes nobody gets to.

In depth

How we update Tutor LMS safely

Updating core and Pro together

Tutor LMS Pro defines the core version it requires and shows a notice instead of running when the versions do not match. We always update the two together, on staging first.

What we test after updates

Login and registration, buying a course with each payment method, enrollment, the student dashboard, lesson completion, a quiz attempt, assignments and certificates if you use them, emails, and the instructor dashboard. If anything fails, live is not touched until it is fixed.

Template overrides

We keep a list of the Tutor LMS templates your theme overrides and compare them with the new versions after each update, so outdated overrides are caught early.

Major versions

Big releases such as Tutor LMS 4 change the learning area and design. We plan these as small projects with you rather than clicking update. See our maintenance checklist.

FAQ

Questions about maintenance plans

How often do you update?
Security updates as soon as practical; others on a regular schedule after testing. Major Tutor LMS versions are planned with you.
What if an update breaks something?
It should break on staging, where we fix it before live. If something slips through, we roll back from backup and fix it.
Can we cancel?
Yes. Plans are monthly. On cancellation we hand over access, backups and notes.
