Razorpay is the payment gateway of choice for many course businesses in India, with cards, UPI, net banking and wallets in one checkout. Tutor LMS Pro includes Razorpay as a gateway for native eCommerce. This guide sets it up.
Requirements
- Tutor LMS Pro, with native eCommerce selected under Settings > Monetization > Options.
- An activated Razorpay account.
- The store currency set to one Razorpay supports for your account, usually INR.
- HTTPS on your site.
Step 1: Install the Razorpay gateway
Go to Settings > Monetization > Payment Methods. Tutor LMS Pro lists its additional gateways there. Add Razorpay; Pro downloads and installs the gateway package for you.
Step 2: Get your API keys
In the Razorpay Dashboard, switch to Test Mode and generate API keys. Copy the Key ID and Key Secret. The secret is shown only once, so store it safely.
Step 3: Set up the webhook
In the Razorpay settings inside Tutor LMS, copy the Webhook URL. It follows the pattern https://your-site.com/wp-json/tutor/v1/ecommerce-webhook?payment_method=razorpay. In the Razorpay Dashboard, add a webhook with this URL, choose a secret, and select the payment events (and subscription events if you sell subscriptions).
Step 4: Enter the settings in Tutor LMS
- Environment: test.
- Key ID and Key Secret.
- Webhook Secret: the secret you set on the webhook.
Enable Razorpay and save.
Step 5: Test
- Buy a course as a test student and pay with Razorpay's test methods.
- Check the order is marked paid under Tutor LMS > Orders and the student is enrolled.
- Test a failed payment and a refund.
- Check webhook deliveries in the Razorpay Dashboard.
Step 6: Go live
Generate live keys, create a live webhook with its own secret, switch the environment to live and enter the live values. Make one real low-value purchase.
Common issues
- Order not marked paid: webhook missing, wrong secret, or REST API requests blocked by a firewall.
- Currency errors: the store currency must be supported by your Razorpay account.
- Tax: GST rules apply to many Indian course sales; configure tax under Monetization > Taxes and check with your accountant.
