How to Run Live Classes with Zoom in Tutor LMS
Set up the Tutor LMS Pro Zoom integration: create a Zoom Server-to-Server OAuth app, add the credentials, schedule meetings in topics and configure meeting options.

Live sessions add accountability and community to online courses. With the Tutor Zoom Integration add-on in Tutor LMS Pro, instructors schedule Zoom meetings inside a course, and enrolled students join from the learning area. Here is how to set it up.
Step 1: Enable the add-on
Go to Tutor LMS > Addons and enable Tutor Zoom Integration ("Connect Tutor LMS with Zoom to host live online classes"). A Zoom page appears in the Tutor LMS menu.
Step 2: Create a Zoom app
Tutor LMS needs API credentials from your Zoom account. In the Zoom App Marketplace, create a Server-to-Server OAuth app for your account and grant it permission to create and manage meetings. Note three values:
- Account ID
- Client ID
- Client Secret
The help text inside the add-on still mentions JWT apps, which Zoom has retired. The add-on's credential fields (Account ID, Client ID, Client Secret) are those of a Server-to-Server OAuth app, so use that app type.
Step 3: Add the credentials
Go to Tutor LMS > Zoom > Set API, paste the Account ID, Client ID and Client Secret, and save. If the credentials are wrong you will see "Invalid Api Credentials".
Step 4: Set default meeting options
The Zoom settings let you choose defaults for new meetings, including:
- Join Before Host: allow students in before the host starts.
- Host video and Participants video: start with video on or off.
- Mute Participants Upon Entry.
- Requiring participants to be signed into a Zoom account ("Only users logged into Zoom App can join the meeting").
- Auto Recording: none, local or cloud.
Step 5: Schedule a live class in a course
- Edit the course and open the Curriculum tab.
- Inside a topic, add a Zoom live lesson (Create Meeting).
- Enter the meeting name, summary, date, start time, duration and time zone, optionally a password, and the host.
- Save. The meeting is created in Zoom and appears in the topic.
Meetings are stored as posts of type tutor_zoom_meeting, attached to the topic. You can also schedule a live class from the Additional tab ("Schedule Live Class"), and manage meetings on the Zoom page, which lists active and expired meetings.
What students see
Enrolled students see the meeting in the curriculum with its time and a Join Now button when it is time. Tutor LMS 4 also has a live lesson hub and, with the Calendar add-on, a calendar of course events.
Recordings
With Auto Recording set to cloud, Zoom stores recordings in your Zoom account. To make them available afterwards, add the recording link to a lesson, or upload it to your video host and embed it.
Zoom or Google Meet?
Tutor LMS Pro also has a Google Meet add-on. Choose the tool your instructors and students already use. Google Meet suits organizations on Google Workspace; Zoom suits larger webinars and has more meeting controls.
Frequently asked questions
Can each instructor use their own Zoom account?
The add-on connects through API credentials. Plan how hosts are assigned in your account; complex multi-account setups may need custom work.
Do students need a Zoom account?
Only if you enable the option that requires participants to be signed in to Zoom.
Why does meeting creation fail?
Usually the app lacks meeting permissions or the credentials are from a different app type. Check the app in the Zoom Marketplace.
