How to Use Tutor AI Studio to Generate Courses
Set up Tutor LMS Pro AI Studio with WordPress Connectors or an OpenAI API key, then generate course outlines, titles, descriptions, images and quiz questions responsibly.
Checked against the plugin source: Tutor LMS 4.1.3, Tutor LMS Pro 4.1.3

AI Studio is Tutor LMS Pro's set of AI tools inside the course builder. It can draft a course outline, titles and descriptions, generate thumbnail images and write quiz questions. Used well, it removes the blank-page problem; used carelessly, it fills courses with generic content. This guide covers setup and sensible use.
Step 1: Connect an AI provider
Open the AI Studio section of the Tutor LMS settings (added by Tutor LMS Pro). How you connect depends on your WordPress version:
- If your WordPress version supports AI connectors, you Enable AI features in Tutor LMS and configure at least one connector, such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini, under WordPress Settings > Connectors.
- Otherwise, enable AI Studio and paste an OpenAI secret key into Insert OpenAI API Key. You create the key in your OpenAI account's API key settings.
Keep the API key private and set a spending limit with your AI provider. Usage is billed by the provider, not by Tutor LMS.
Step 2: Generate a course
In the course builder, AI Studio offers to "Generate a complete course outline in seconds". Describe the main focus of your course in a few words, choose a tone (for example formal, casual or enthusiastic) and let it propose a title, a description and topics with lessons. You can then edit everything before saving.
Step 3: Generate or edit images
For thumbnails, describe the image you want or pick a style (photo, illustration, concept and others). Tools such as Magic Fill and Generative Erase edit an image, and you can generate again until it fits. Check the result for odd details before using it.
Step 4: Generate quiz questions
Since Tutor LMS 4.0, AI Studio can generate quiz questions on its own: "AI will generate questions based on your selected topics and types." Choose the topics and question types, then review each question and its correct answer carefully.
Using AI responsibly in courses
- Start from your expertise. Use AI for structure and first drafts, then add your own examples, stories and data. That is what students pay for.
- Check every fact and every answer key. AI-generated quiz questions can have wrong "correct" answers.
- Keep your voice. Edit drafts so they sound like you.
- Respect privacy. Do not paste student data or confidential material into prompts.
- Check image rights and suitability before publishing.
What AI Studio does not do
It does not record videos, design your curriculum strategy or know your students. Treat it as a fast assistant, not an author.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI Studio included in the free plugin?
No. AI Studio is part of Tutor LMS Pro.
Can I use a provider other than OpenAI?
Yes, on WordPress versions with AI connectors: Tutor LMS mentions OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Gemini as connector examples, configured in Settings > Connectors. Otherwise AI Studio uses an OpenAI API key.
Can AI create content for my whole catalogue?
It can draft it, but publishing unreviewed AI content harms trust and search visibility. Review everything.
