How to Use Tutor LMS for Corporate Training

Tutor LMS is often thought of as a tool for selling courses, but it works well for corporate training too: onboarding new staff, compliance courses, product training for sales teams, or programs a training company delivers to its clients. This guide explains how to set it up for corporate use, what Tutor LMS and Tutor LMS Pro provide, and where custom work is usually needed.

Two kinds of corporate training

  • Internal training: a company trains its own employees. No checkout; people are enrolled automatically and must finish by a deadline. See Tutor LMS for employee training.
  • Training providers: a training company or L&D team delivers programs to several client organizations, often selling seats. See Tutor LMS for corporate training.

The platform is the same; the business layer differs.

What Tutor LMS gives you

Structured programs

Courses are divided into topics with lessons and quizzes. In Pro, assignments, live lessons with Zoom or Google Meet, content drip and prerequisites let you build blended programs where modules open in order.

Private access

Courses can be private, password protected or public. For internal training, keep courses private and enroll people yourself.

Enrollment without a checkout

With monetization disabled, courses are free to enroll in. The Enrollment add-on in Pro lets admins enroll users manually or in bulk. For automatic enrollment from an HR system, use the Pro REST API or custom code.

Assessment and evidence

Quizzes record every attempt with score, time and result. The Gradebook (Pro) combines results. Certificates (Pro), designed with the Certificate Builder, are issued on completion and, since Tutor LMS 4, can be verified.

Reports

The Tutor Report add-on (Pro) shows course, student and review statistics. Manager-level reports by team or department are custom work.

A typical setup

  1. Disable monetization for internal training, or use native eCommerce with manual payments and coupons for training providers.
  2. Organize courses by department or program with categories.
  3. Turn on the Pro add-ons you need: Enrollment, Certificate, Prerequisites, Content Drip, Gradebook, Report, and Zoom or Google Meet for live sessions.
  4. Set up sign-in: single sign-on with your identity provider for employees, or standard accounts for external learners.
  5. Enroll learners manually, in bulk or automatically.
  6. Configure emails with the Email add-on and a reliable SMTP service.
  7. Test the full journey as a learner and as a manager.

What usually needs custom work

  • Groups and managers. Tutor LMS has no built-in concept of a team with a manager who sees only their people. This is the most common custom feature.
  • Deadlines and reminders. Due dates for mandatory courses and reminder emails before them.
  • Seat licences. A client buys a number of seats and assigns them.
  • Compliance exports. Who completed what, when, with what score and certificate, in one file.
  • HR integration. Users and enrollments created from HR data, completions sent back.
  • SCORM or xAPI. Tutor LMS does not include them; existing SCORM packages need an add-on or custom work.

These build on Tutor LMS events such as tutor_after_enrolled and tutor_course_complete_after, and on its enrollment and progress data. See enterprise development and custom reporting.

Why companies choose Tutor LMS

  • Ownership. Your platform, your hosting, your data.
  • Cost. No per-user licence fees from the LMS itself; costs are hosting, licences and development.
  • Experience. Tutor LMS 4's learning area is modern and mobile-friendly, which helps adoption.
  • Flexibility. Hooks and the REST API make it possible to fit the platform to your processes.

The trade-off is responsibility: someone has to host, secure, update and support it. Plan for that from the start, for example with a maintenance plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can managers see their team's progress?

Not out of the box. It is a common custom feature built on Tutor LMS enrollment and completion data.

Can employees log in with Microsoft accounts?

Yes, with a SAML or OpenID Connect single sign-on plugin configured for Microsoft Entra ID.

How many employees can Tutor LMS handle?

That depends on hosting and how many people learn at the same time. With good hosting and object caching, thousands of learners are realistic.
